2. Close Discord. Some programs will automatically close or ask you to shut them down during the removal, while some will not. To better remove Discord, shut down the program and the related possesses that are running in the background before actual removal. There are two places to check:
System Tray: Right-click the icon and select Quit.
Task Manager: press & hold Ctrl + Alt + Del to open, then close/end everything related to Discord.
3. Remove Discord through the Programs and Features. In the bottom-left corner of your screen, right-click the Windows logo and select Programs and Features. Then you see the list which tells you what programs are installed on your PC, the names of them, when they’re installed, and how much disk space they’re taking. Locate & double-click Discord to activate its built-in uninstaller.
4. Follow the pop-up wizard to proceed with the removal. It will ask whether you wish to keep your user data, click No if you have no intention to reinstall the program, otherwise click Yes.
5. Back up the Registry (Optional). This is a precaution — if you accidentally delete anything that isn’t supposed to be deleted, you’ll have a full back-up copy to restore the data. Hover your mouse in the bottom-right corner to see the charms bar, select Search, then enter “regedit” to open Registry Editor. > On the navigator click File > Export, type a name for the back-up copy and save it to your selected location.
6. Remove Discord from Registry Editor. During installation the program puts its entries/keys in the Registry, so that it can be connected to the whole system. That’s why sometimes you can’t run a program by simply coping the folder from somewhere else. And this step is to delete the entries of Discord. Hover your mouse in the bottom-right corner to see the charms bar, select Search, then enter “regedit” to open Registry Editor > Delete these two folders:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis\
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\
7. If necessary, restart your PC to completely remove Discord.
Permanently Delete Your Discord Account if You Want to
If you will never use the account ever again after the removal, you may consider delete your account by going through these steps on the browser and desktop client:
1. User Settings
2. My Account
3. Edit
4. Delete Account
Please note that if you are a server owner, you will need to either delete the server, or transfer ownership.
1. Pass off the keys to your castles.
2. Initiate the deletion.
3. Enter your password along with your six digit 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) code.
4. Press the Delete Account button one last time to finish.
